After many years of work and cooperation, WCDP is proud to have played a role in completing the walls and roofing of the first classroom block in the village of Kasolwe. We wish to give special thanks to Joe and Janet O'Brien who have provided significant support of this project. In their honor, the community is planning to name the computer learning center of the school in their honor. See images below.
During most of 2016 WCDP was fundraising to generate $3000 for the installation of a solar power and lighting system at the Buhoma Community High School in Buhoma, Uganda. By February, 2017, we had achieved our fundraising goal and began coordinating with the community for the installation. The community provided an additional $300 as their contribution to the project.
This past June the solar installation was completed, providing lighting to all of the buildings on the High School campus. Below are photos of the installation, and gratitude of the community.
I wish to join the students of Buhoma Community High School in thanking all of those who donated to this project.
Construction resumes on the Green Courts Foundational School in Kasolwe, Uganda. Green Courts is a community owned and managed school that has been operating without a building of its own for more than 10 years, and is finally getting a home, thanks to generous support from WCDP donors.
Thanks Joe and Janet for a second donation of $1000. We are glad that you were so happy with the results from your first contribution that you made a second donation... AND talked us up to another donor, giving us $2000 in donations to start the year! Gonna be an exciting one!
Ideas for this money range from a solar system for a school, to assisting some smaller community projects that we have solicited proposals for over the years, and will now be able to provide assistance to.
Today we sent the second half of a generous donation from Joe and Janet to the Kasolwe community group, KaNaKi, to help them complete construction on a community school, the Green Courts Foundational School (GCFS).
The photo to the right is a Google Earth image of the school. It currently has most of its walls and iron sheet roof, which is protecting the brick walls from rain damage. The $500 donation is going to purchase cement and iron bars to complete the walls, and pay for the labor costs. The community will be donating the bricks, and sand will be obtained locally as well for mixing in with the concrete.
We will keep you updated once the funds have been spent and the school is completed. Our next goal...
WCDP received a generous donation of $1000 from Joe and Janet, and we have given half of this donation to the Buhoma Community Savings and Loan Association, AKA the Buhoma SACCO. The Buhoma SACCO sets up savings accounts for its members and provides micro loans for business development and other activities in the community. It also helps support the construction of schools, clinics and other essentials in this remote village.
The $500 given to Buhoma SACCO was well spent, providng 73 pangas (machetes) and 100 hoes for its members to use on their farms. They also purchased t-shirts for all of the SACCO staff. We are very pleased with these purchases and feel the $500 was well spent and impacted many lives.
