Energy Saving Stoves - KaNaKi held successful train-the-trainers courses on the construction of energy saving cooking stoves. These can be used for households and institutional use and have been installed in numerous households and institutions in the community.
Environmental Education - KaNaKi has conducted envrionmental education via sensitization workshops and talk shows on local radio stations.
Tree Planting - over 40,000 pine trees have been planted in the past 3 years by the organization and its members.
Fruit Growing - over 600 mango trees have been planted by organization members.
About KaNaKi CDO
KaNaKi CDO takes its name from the three villages they represent: Kasolwe, Namusita, and Kikubi. These villages comprise the Kasolwe Parish in Balawoli Sub-County, Kamuli District in Uganda.
Mission: To promote environment conservation and improved livelihoods of the KaNaKi community through community mobilization, sensitization and undertaking income generating activities that will lead to positive change."
Membership: 55 members (33 men, 22 women)
Funding/Support: WCDP, GEF/SGP (United Nations), Sawlog Production Grant Scheme (SPGS), and Ministerial offices at District and Sub County levels.
Agroforestry - Establishment and management of tree nurseries, transplanting and establishment of woodlots of various tree species for production of timber and other resources.
Beekeeping - Apiary training, bee hive construction and honey generation as an alternative to charcoal burning for income generation.
Greencourts Community Primary School - This school founded in the community after the government built school collapsed. With highly trained teachers it is regarded as one of the best in the local region with high graduation rates.
Sustainable Land Use - Use of oxen as an alternative to burning bushes to clear land for agriculture and other development
