D Street Media Group Supports WCDP School Initiative in AfricaLos Angeles, CA December 19, 2008 - D Street Media Group is giving immediate financial assistance to the community of Bulaga, Uganda in East Africa through a project sponsored by the World Community Development Programme (WCDP), based in Los Angeles, California. D Street Media Group is providing an infusion of cash for immediate assistance to purchase roofing materials for a school being constructed by the Bulaga Community Development Initiative under the guidance and support of WCDP. This donation is needed to complete work on a section of the roof of the school. Additional funds are being sought to complete the remainder of the roof. WCDP accepts donations through their website at www.wcdp.org.
D Street Media Group is not stopping at its cash donation; its Founder and CEO, Dexter Davis, also serves on the WCDP Board of Directors. He is currently organizing an event to raise money for a PlayPump for at least one African community. A PlayPump pulls water out of the ground into a storage tank as children play on a merry-go-round. This fundraiser is scheduled for March 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia, with a host of local celebrities who are already confirmed. About WCDP: WCDP is involved with two school construction projects in the country of Uganda. In addition to the school in Bulaga, WCDP is doing similar work in the community of Kasolwe, which currently operates a very successful school out of a local community member’s home. WCDP Founder and Director, John Ahrens, sees these school projects as opportunities to provide healthier and more productive lives to the school children beyond just a school building. “WCDP operates on the principle that it takes more than just a school to improve the living standards of a community. Through these schools we can also provide students with clean water, nutritious meals, medical care and public health information, proper sanitation facilities, recreational opportunities, and more that can benefit the students and the community as a whole,” Ahrens informs. WCDP takes a comprehensive development approach, covering not just one area of specialization, like education, but ensuring that all aspects of community are covered, including health care, infrastructure, agriculture and nutrition, and business development and growth. WCDP also acknowledges the importance of local participation and sustainability, requiring all benefiting communities to establish their own community-based organization, which will provide a vision for their development. The community is also required to consider how a project will be sustained over the long term, once WCDP has completed its role. |
